May 2016 Summary

In Brief:
Some fine weather at first, in the middle, and at the end of the month.  Unsettled in the third week.
Mostly on the cool side by day, average by night, but reasonably dry.

Temperature [Minimum]:
The coldest night of the month was that of the 4th with a low of 2.8 degs C.  This was the coldest May night since at least 2004 at this location.  Previously this was 3.2 degs recorded in May 2014.
The mildest nights of the month were the 12th and 21st with 12.4 degs C.
The average night-time temperature for May 2016 was 9.54 degs C, which is the 6th lowest since 2004.
This was lower than the average minimum for December 2015 of 10.08 degs C.
The temperature fell below 5 degs C on two nights, [1st and 4th], which is the most times in May since 2010.

Temperature [Maximum]:
The coolest day of the month was the 1st with a high of 12.6 degs C, and the warmest was the 13th with 21.7.  This gives an average for the month of 16.91 degs C, making May 2016 the third coolest since at least 2004.
The temperature exceeded 20 degs C 4 times during the month, which is about average.

Rain:
46.1 mm of rain fell during May 2016, making it the driest May since 2012, and the driest month since April 2015.  This compares with 71.1 mm in May 2015 and 61.0 mm in April 2016.
The wettest day of the month was the 18th with 8.9 mm, the lowest 'wettest day' figure since April 2015.
There were only 3 other days with more than 3.0 mm of rain, 9th [8.3], 20th [7.8], and 21st [7.5].
There were 14 dry days and 17 with no measurable rain during May 2016, the most in May since 2013.
Only 0.5 mm of rain fell from the 3rd to the 8th, no measurable rain between the 12th and 16th, and only 2.1 mm after the 21st.

Cumulatively 644.5 mm of rain has fallen between January and May 2016 compared with 453.3 mm during the same period in 2015 [+42.18%].
