April 2016 Summary

In Brief:
Cold and mostly unsettled. Fine for most of the third week.

Temperature: [Minimum]:
The coldest night of April 2016 was the 18th with a min of 0.9 degs C. This was the coldest April night since 2013.  The mildest night of April 2016 was the 21st with a min of 9.7 degs C.  Since 2004 there has always been a milder night than this in April.  2nd lowest 'mildest April night' was 10.1 in 2015.
The average minimum temperature for April 2016 was 5.46 degs C, which is the lowest for April since at least 2003. 2nd lowest is 6.76 degs C in April 2010.  The average minimum temperatures in December 2015 and January 2016 were 10.08 and 6.11 degs C respectively!
The temperature fell below 5 degs C on 13 nights in April 2016, which easily beat the hitherto April maximum since 2004, of 8 nights, in both 2010 and 2015.
The temperature didn't quite fall below 0 degs C, which has never happened at this location in April since at least 2003.

Temperature: [Maximum]:
The coldest day of April 2016 was the 10th with a max of 10.0 degs C, which was the coldest April day since 2013.  The 'warmest' day of April 2016 was the 19th with a max of 15.5 degs C.  This is the lowest maximum April temperature at this location since at least 2003.  2nd lowest is 17.0 in 2012.
In both March 2016 and December 2015 there was a maximum temperature of 15.6 degs C!
The average maximum temperature for April 2016 was 13.23 degs C, which is the lowest for April since at least 2003.  2nd lowest is 13.41 degs C in April 2012.  The average maximum temperature for December 2015 was 13.37 degs C!
The temperature was not even close to exceeding 20 degs C during April 2016.  This compares with twice in April 2015.

Rain:
61.0 mm of rain fell during April 2016, making it the driest month since June 2015, despite being the 4th wettest April since 2008.   This compares with 18.6 mm in April 2015 and 113.8 mm in March 2016.
The wettest day of April was the 2nd with 12.0 mm.  The only other days with more than 5 mm of rain were 10th [8.6 mm], 14th [7.9 mm] and 22nd [8.4 mm].
Although there were few 'wet' days, there were only 9 completely dry days during the month, and 13 with no measurable rain. The longest completely dry spell was just 4 days from the 17th to the 20th.

Cumulatively 598.4 mm of rain have fallen in the period January to April 2016.  This compares with 382.2 mm [+56.57%] during the same period in 2015.
