January 2015 Summary

In Brief:
Chilly and wet, with very few dry days.

Temperature: [Minimum]:
The temperature fell to -1.6 degs C on the night of the 16th/17th, making it the coldest January night since 2011.
On an unusually high number of occasions during the month, the minimum 24 hour temperature was reached during the following day, and not during the night.  Although the 24 hour period with the highest minimum was that ending 2200 on the 1st, [11.0 degs C], the minimum night-time temperature exceeded this on the nights of the 8th [11.6], 10th [11.6], and 15th [11.3], however on these occasions the temperature fell below 11.0 degs C during the following day.
Therefore the mildest nights of the month were the nights of the 7th/8th and 9th/10th, with 11.6 degs C as the low.
The average minimum temperature for January 2015 was 4.64 degs C, and that is the lowest of any month since January 2011.
During January 2015 the temperature fell below 5 degs C on 17 nights, the most of any month since January 2011.  The temperature also fell below 0 degs C on 3 nights, the most since February 2012, and the most in January since 2011.

Temperature [Maximum]:
The coldest day of the month was the 19th with 6.6 degs C. which was the lowest for January since 2013. In January 2014 the coldest day was 10.5 degs C.
The highest daytime temperature during January 2015 was 13.4, on the 1st.  The temperature has exceeded this every January since 2011.
The average maximum for January 2015 was 10.13 degs C, which is the coldest of any month since March 2013, and the coldest for January since 2011.

Rainfall:
188.7 mm of rain fell during January 2015, which is over double that of the preceeding month [Dec 2014: 90.8 mm], but well below 254.6 mm recorded in January 2014 [-25.88%].  It was still the wettest month since February 2014.
The wettest day itself was the 14th with 18.7 mm, and there were several further days with over 10mm: 3rd [18.3], 8th [16.8], 9th [13.8], 12th [14.5], 15th [14.3], and 29th [17.3].
There were only 2 completely dry 2200-2200 24 hour periods, and 5 with no measurable rain, both of these the least number since February 2014.
There were no prolonged dry periods therefore, but the periods with least rain were the 4th to the 6th [1.1 mm], 16th to 19th [5.1 mm], and 22nd to 27th [5.5 mm].

Thunder:
