February 2015 Summary

In Brief:
Mainly fine and cool during the first two weeks, then unsettled with some rain, but milder.

Temperature: Minimum:
The coldest nights of the month were those ending the 2nd and 4th when the temperature fell to -1.8 degs C. This was the coldest February temperature since 2012.
The mildest night of the month was that of the 25th/26th with a minimum temperature of 10.3 degs C.
This temperature has been exceeded during at least one night in every month since March 2012.
The temperature actually fell to 8.4 degs C during the 26th, thus in the same 24 hour period, however this is still above the minimum temperature of 8.2 degs recorded on the next mildest night of the month.
The average minimum temperature for February 2015 was 3.19 degs C, making it the coldest February for nights since at least 2003.  February 2005, with an average of 3.62 degs C, is now the second coldest.
February 2015 was also the coldest for nights of any month since December 2010.
The temperature fell below 5 degs C on 18 nights during the month, which is the most for February since at least 2003, and the most of any month since December 2010.
The temperature also fell below 0 degs C on 6 nights during the month, 5 of which were consecutive [nights ending 2nd to 6th] and the 8th, which is also the most of any month since December 2010 and equals the most number of times in February with 2005.

Temperature: [Maximum]:
The coldest day of the month was the 6th with a maximum temperature of 4.4 degs C.  This was the coldest day since March 2013.
The mildest day of the month was the 27th with 13.5 degs C.  This is close to the lowest February maximum of 13.4 degs C, recorded in 2009 and 2010.
The average maximum temperature for February 2015 was 9.11 degs C, making it the coldest February since at least 2003, and pushing February 2006 with an average of 9.67 degs C into second place. 
It was also the coldest of any month since - December 2010!

Rainfall:
109.9 mm of rain fell during February 2015, making it the second wettest February since 2009.  February 2014 had 202.4 mm.  The month was a good bit drier than January 2015 however, which had 188.7 mm.
The wettest day of the month was Friday the 13th, with 21.9 mm.  This was the wettest day since 15th October 2014.  There were only three other days with over 7 mm of rain during the month: 19th [14.0 mm], 22nd [19.4 mm] and 28th [12.8 mm].   Out of these the 22nd was most significant as the rain persisted throughout the day.
There were 12 completely dry days during the month, the most since September 2014, and only 2.7 mm of rain fell up to the 12th.
Cumulatively 298.6 mm of rain have fallen in 2015 to the end of February.  This compares with 457.0 mm during the same period in 2014 [-34.66%].

Snow:
Snow fell during a heavy shower on the afternoon of the 2nd, causing lying snow to be evident on the 3rd.

Thunder:
Thunder was heard on the 23rd.
