Winter Temperatures

As recent reports have shown, we have now enterred the time of year when it is not uncommon for the maximum temperature for a 24 hour period to occur during the night, and the minimum temperature to occur during the daytime.
As far as possible, daily reports will show the minimum overnight and maximum daytime temperatures, qualified by a note showing the extremes if they occurred during the opposite period.

For the purpose of monthly reports, summaries etc, the extreme minimum and maximum for the 24 hour period concerned will apply, regardless of the time they were reached.

Exceptions to this are:
(i) when the temperature is higher at the beginning of the new 24 hr period [2100 GMT] than the maximum reached the next day, or overnight, or (ii) when the temperature is lower at the end of the current 24 hr period [2100 GMT] than the minimum reached the previous night, or during the day, and in both cases when there is both a clear night-time minimum and a clear daytime maximum and the maximum is higher than the minimum.  In these cases the daytime maximum and previous night's minimum are reported.

Exceptions example: Temp at 2100 GMT Monday: 14.0;  Min o/night Mon/Tue: 7.0;  Max daytime Tuesday: 10.0; Temp at 2100 GMT Tuesday: 5.0.  In this case, the Tuesday min would be reported as 7.0, and the max would be reported as 10.0.    The actual 24-hour max of 14.0 would have been included in Monday's figures, and the actual 24-hour min of 5.0 would be included in Wednesday's.
