September 2016 Summary

In Brief:
Very wet, except the third week.  Warm nights, plus days during the first week.

Temperature: [Minimum]:
The coolest night of the month was the 22nd with a minimum of 9.1 degs C.
The warmest night of the month was the 6th with a minimum of 17.6 degs C.   This was the second warmest night since July 2014 [19th July 2016 being the warmest].  It was also the warmest September night for 3 years.
The average minimum temperature for the month was 13.5 degs C, the third highest of the last thirteen Septembers.  2006 and 2013 were warmer.

Temperature: [Maximum]:
The coolest day of the month was the 26th with a maximum of 16.0 degs C.
The warmest day of the month was the 5th with a maximum of 22.8 degs C.  This was equal to the warmest day of August.
The average maximum temperature for the month was 18.8 degs C, the second lowest of the last thirteen Septembers.  2015 was the lowest [18.07].

The temperature exceeded 20 degs C on eight days during the month.
The last September that the temperature exceeded 25 degs C was 2006.

Rainfall:
146.8 mm of rain fell during September 2016.  This compares with 70.8 mm in August 2016, and 68.6 mm in September 2015.
It was the wettest September at this location since rainfall records began in 2008, pushing September 2010 [102.7 mm] into second place, and it was the wettest of any month since February 2016.

The wettest day of the month was the 13th with 32.0 mm, which is the wettest September day since at least 2007, and the wettest day of any month since 13th August 2015.
Other notable wet days of the month were 3rd [23.7]; 24th [19.9]; and the 26th [17.8].  The overnight period following the wettest day [13th] saw a further 11.5 mm of rain.

There were 10 completely dry days, which is the second lowest number for September since at least 2007.  2011 had the fewest [9].
The driest period of September 2016 was the 15th to 21st with 0.4 mm.

Cumulatively 948.9 mm of rain has fallen during the period January to September 2016.  This compares with 858.0 mm during the same period in 2015 [+10.59%].  2016 is also now the wettest year so far, since at least 2008, having overtaken 2014, which only saw 4.6 mm of rain during September.

Thunder:
Thunderstorms occurred on the 13th and 14th.
