February 2016 Summary

In Brief:
Wet and unsettled during the first half.  Rather cold with some fine days during the second half.

Tenperature [Minimum]:
The coldest night of the month was the 16th with -1.9 degs C.  This was the lowest February temperature since 2012 and the coldest night of any month since December 2014.
The mildest night of the month was the 21st with 10.7 degs C, giving an average of 4.11 degs C.  This is the 4th coldest for Febraury since 2004.
The temperature fell below 5 degs C on 17 nights during February 2016, which is the 2nd most times in February since 2004.  Last year saw the most with 18.
The temperature fell below 0 degs C on 4 nights, which is the 4th most in February since 2004.  The most was 6 times in 2005 and 2015.

Temperature [Maximum]:
The coldest day of the month was the 14th with a max of 6.8 degs C, which was the coldest day of any month since February 2015.  The highest temperature of the month was 13.5 degs C on the 21st. This was the =3rd lowest February maximum since 2004, just exceeding the lowest itself, which was 13.4 degs C in 2009 and 2010.
The average daytime temperature for February 2016 was 9.82 degs C, which is the 3rd lowest for February since 2004.  Those lower were 2006 [9.67] and 2015 [9.11].

Rainfall:
190.0 mm of rain fell during February 2016, making it the 2nd wettest February since 2009.  The infamous February 2014 was the wettest with 202.4 mm.   This compares with 233.6 mm in January 2016, and 109.9 mm in February 2015.
The wettest day of February 2016 was the 12th, with 31.9 mm, which was the wettest February day since 2009 and the wettest day of any month since August 2015.
The 6th was also a wet day with 31.4 mm, and other days of the month with more than 10 mm were the 7th [16.8], 13th [16.0], 17th [19.9] and 26th [24.1].
There were 5 totally dry days and 7 with no measurable rain, none in the first 2 weeks.  This is the 2nd lowest number since February 2004 in both cases.  2014 had the least, with just the one.

Cumulatively:
423.6 mm of rain has fallen during January and February 2016, which compares with 298.6 mm during the same period in 2015* [+41.86%].   *One extra day in 2016.   (2014 = 457 mm.)
