August 2015 Summary

In Brief:
Wet, cool and mostly cloudy.  Very few fine days.  Mostly overcast from 19th to 22nd.
Would have been a poor month even by winter's standards.

Temperature: Minimum:
The lowest minimum of the month was on the night ending 1st when the temperature fell to 9.1 degs C.
The highest minimum was on the night ending 21st with 17.0 degs C, which was the highest minimum since September 2014.
The average minimum temperature was 13.04 degs C. This is the 3rd lowest of the last twelve Augusts, with only 2011 and 2014 lower.

Temperature: Maximum:
The 24th, with a max of 16.5 degs C, was the coldest August day ever at this location*. Previously this was 17.2 degs C recorded in August 2014.
23.6 degs C was the highest temperature recorded in August 2015, on the 8th, and was the warmest day of summer 2015.  Despite this, it is in fact the second lowest August maximum of at least the last twelve, with 22.7 degs C as the max in 2011 still holding the record.
The average maximum for August 2015 was 19.79 degs C, which is the lowest ever average for August at this location.*  August 2011 is second lowest with an average of 20.06.
The temperature exceeded 20 degs C in August 2015 on 14 days, which unsurprisingly is the fewest ever.* August 2011 has the second lowest number of days over 20 degs C, with 19.

It is the first time since 2012 that the temperature did not exceed 25 degs C during August.

Rain:
181.7 mm of rain fell during August 2015, making it the wettest month since January. This compares with 105.2 mm in July 2015, and 83.3 mm in August 2014.
It was the wettest August since at least 2007, and therefore beats 2012's 149.1 mm into second place.
The wettest day itself was the 13th with 46.9 mm, this being the wettest August day at this location since at least 2007, exceeding 45.9 mm that fell on 25th August 2010.  It was also the wettest day of any month since 24th November 2012, thus it was wetter than any day during the infamous storms of winter 2013/2014!

There were 9 completely dry days, the fewest in any month since January, however 3 more than during August 2008.  There were 10 days in August 2015 with no measurable rain.
The longest completely dry period was just 4 days, 15th to 18th.  Other than this, the 7th and 8th, 11th and 12th, and 29th were the only other completely dry days of August 2015.

Cumulatively 789.4 mm of rain has fallen from January to August 2015.  This compares with 865.9 mm during the same period in 2014 [-8.83 %].

Thunder:
None this month.

*Since at least 2004.
