Winter Temperatures

It is not uncommon during the winter months for the maximum temperature for a 24 hour period to occur during the night, and the minimum temperature to occur during the daytime.
In the past, reporting of this has been inconsistent.  From now on, as far as possible, daily reports will show the minimum overnight and maximum daytime temperatures, qualified by a note showing the extremes if they occurred during the opposite period.
For the purpose of monthly reports, summaries etc, the extreme minimum and maximum for the 24 hour period concerned will apply, regardless of the time they were reached.
Exceptions to this are:
(i) when the temperature is higher at the beginning of the new 24 hr period [2200] than the maximum reached the next day but still shows a fall from the previous day's maximum to a night-time minimum, and a rise during the following day to that day's maximum.  In these cases the daytime maximum is used;
(ii) when the temperature is lower at the end of the current 24 hr period [2200] than the minimum reached the previous night but still shows a rise from that night's minimum to a daytime maximum, and a fall to the following night's minimum.  In these cases the previous night's minimum is used.
