September 2014 Summary

In Brief:
Very dry and fairly sunny first half.  Warm, especially at night.  Showers during the final week.

Temperature [Minimum]:
On the night of the 22nd/23rd temperatures reached a low of 8.1 degs C, the coolest September night since 2010, however this was not as low as the 6.9 degs C reached in August.
The warmest night of the month was the 16th/17th with 17.2 degs C, giving an average of 12.97 degs C.  Unusually, this exceeded the August average of 12.49 degs C.

Temperature [Maximum]:
The coolest day of September 2014 was the 19th with a maximum of 18.5 degs C.  There has been a cooler day than this every September since 2007.  The warmest day of the month was the 5th with 23.7 degs C, equalling the warmest day of September 2013.
The average maximum for the month was 21.66 degs C, making it the warmest September since at least 2004.  This was only a little cooler than August, which had an average of 21.87 degs C, and beats the 21.38 recorded in September 2006 into second place.
The maximum temperature exceeded 20 degs C on 27 days, beating the 22 days recorded in 2006.  The temperature never exceeded 25 degs C in September 2014 however, but did so twice in 2006, the most recent time it has happened in September.

Rainfall:
September 2014 set a new record in becoming the driest of any month at this location since rainfall records began in April 2008.  Official reports show it was the driest September for a lot longer.
With just 4.6 mm of rain for the whole month, it beats April 2011 with it's 11.1 mm into second place.
This compares with 83.3 mm in August 2014, and 63.8 mm in September 2013.
The rainfall total for the month almost doubled on the last day, as up until the end of the 29th only 2.5 mm of rain had fallen!
The 30th was the wettest day of the month with 2.1 mm. The only other day with more than 1 mm of rain was the 24th with 1.2 mm, and there were only 4 days with measurable rain in the whole month, the others being the 1st and the 26th.   This means there was no measurable rain from the 2nd to the 23rd.
There were 22 completely dry days in the month, beating the previous highest number of 21 recorded in September 2009.

Cumulatively 870.5 mm of rain has fallen in 2014 until the end of September.  This compares with 733.4 mm for the same period in 2013 [+18.69%].
