July 2014 Summary

In Brief:
Mostly dry, fine and warm. specially the second half of the month.

Temperature [Minimum]:
The coolest night of the month was the 8th when the temperature fell to 9.2 degs C. This was the second coolest July night ever at this location* with 8.3 being the coolest on the 21st of July, 2011.
The warmest night of July 2014 was the 24th, when the temperature did not go below 17.9 degs C.
This gave an average of 14.56 degs C, making it the 5th warmest July for night-time temperature since 2004.

Temperature [Maximum]:
The coolest day of the month was the 7th with a max of 20.2 degs C.  There has been a cooler day than this every month since July 2006, when the lowest was 20.5 degs C.
The warmest day of the month was the 26th, with 28.0 degs C.  This was the hottest day since 14th July 2013, when the temperature reached 28.5 degs C.
The average daytime maximum for July 2014 was 23.99 degs C, making it the second hottest month ever at this location.* July 2006 was the hottest with an average of 24.68 degs C.

The temperature exceeded 20 degs C on all 31 days of July 2014, the first time this has happened in any month since July 2006.   25 degs C was exceeded 11 times in July 2014, which is the most times ever.*  July 2006 only managed ten!

Rainfall:
32.6 mm of rain fell during July 2014, making it the driest of any month since March 2012.  It was also the lowest figure for any July since at least 2007, although July 2013 was close with 36.2 mm.   June 2014 saw 44.1 mm of rain.
The wettest day itself was the 4th, with 6.3 mm.  This was the lowest amount for a wettest day since 6.2 mm in April 2011.
There were 16 completely dry days, and 18 with no measurable rain.   Although some rain fell on 15 days of the month, there were only 7 days with more than 1 mm.  The longest spell with no rain at all was just 6 days, from the 18th to the 23rd.

Cumulatively 782.6 mm of rain has fallen in 2014 to the end of July. Despite two consecutive dryish months this compares with 574.1 mm in the same period in 2013 [+36.3%].   

Thunder:
Thunder was heard on the 17th during a lengthy spectacular lightning storm.
