October 2013 Summary

In Brief:
Very warm by night and day, and very wet.

Temperature [Night]:
The coolest night of the month was the 10th/11th, when the temperature fell to 8.1 degs C.  This was not the highest minimum for October however, as in October 2006 it did not fall below 8.2 degs C.
The warmest night of the month was the 1st/2nd, when the temperature only fell to 19.1 degs C.  This was the highest ever October minimum at this location* by some margin, as the previous record was 17.0 degs C, set in 2012.  To further illustrate how warm October 2013's nights were, this figure was exceeded twelve times this month!
The average minimum for October 2013 was 15.07 degs C, which was very close to that for September, and unsurprisingly was the highest ever for October at this location*, beating 12.62 from October 2006 into second place by some margin.

Temperature [Day]:
The coolest day of the month was the 10th with 13.8 degs C, and the warmest was the 3rd with 22.7 degs C.  This was the warmest October day ever at this location*, beating 2012's 22.4 into second place.
The average daytime maximum for October 2013 was 18.73 degs C, which secures October 2013 as the warmest October at this location*, pushing 2006's 17.89 degs C into second place.
The temperature exceeded 20 degs C on eight days during the month, which is eight times more than during any other October since at least 2003.  2006, 2011 and 2012 were the only other years this happened, and even then on only one day each.

Rainfall:
214.4 mm of rain fell during October 2013, making it the wettest October at this location since at least 2007.  It was also the wettest of any month since December 2012.  For comparison, 63.8 mm fell in September, and 185.6 mm in October 2012.
The wettest day of the month was the 27th with 39 mm of rain, and there were three other days spread through the month with more than 20 mm, namely the 3rd [30 mm], 16th [22.6 mm] and 21st [23.2 mm].
This meant that dry periods were few and short-lived, with the driest period being the 4th to the 15th with just 6.8 mm.

There were only six completely dry days [2200-2200], which is the equal least [with 2012] since at least 2007, and the fewest of any month since January 2013.  There were also only seven days [2200-2200] with no measurable rain at all.

Cumulatively 947.8 mm of rain has fallen during 2013, which compares with 995.9 mm up to the end of October 2012.

Thunder:
There were thundery showers on the morning of the 20th.

*Since at least 2002.
