October 2012 Summary

In Brief:
Generally cool and very wet. The month had the highest ever October night-time temperature, and the highest and lowest ever October daytime temperatures at this location*.

Temperature: [Minimum]:
The coldest night in October 2012 was that of the 26th/27th with 2.9 degs C. This was the coldest night since 19th/20th February.
The warmest was that of the 10th/11th when the temperature only fell to 17.0 degs C.  This was the warmest ever October night by some way at this location*. The previous warmest being 15.7 in 2006.
The average night-time temperature for October 2012 was 11.12 degs C, the 4th coolest of the last 9.

Temperature: [Maximum]:
The coolest day in October 2012 was the 27th with a maximum of just 9.0 degs C. This was the coldest day since 4th April, and the coldest ever October day by almost one degree at this location*.  Previously this was 9.9 degs C in 2008.
The warmest day was the 8th with 22.4 degs, which was coincidentally the highest ever October temperature by some way at this location*. The previous warmest was 20.2 in 2006.
Despite this, the average was 15.86 degs C, making October 2012 the 3rd coolest of the last 9.

Rainfall:
185.6 mm of rain fell during the month, just exceeding April's total, and making it the wettest month since December 2011, and the wettest October of the last 5. This compares with 65.5 mm of rain in September.
The wettest day itself was the 29th with 21.2 mm, and there were 6 completely dry 24 hour periods [2200-2200]. This is the lowest number since June, and the fewest of the last 5 Octobers.
The longest dry spell was 3 days [25th to 27th], however it was relatively dry from the 18th to the 28th with only 2.4 mm of the total falling during that time.
By the end of October, 2012 has had 995.9 mm of rain, and thereby already exceeds the total of 985.2 mm for the whole of 2011.  This is even more interesting because by the end of March, 2012 had had over 160 mm less rain than 2011!

Thunder:
Thunder occurred on the 17th.

*Since at least 2003.
