September 2012 Summary

In Brief:
Rather cool. Mainly dry for the first three weeks, then wet.

Temperature: [Minimum]:
Night-time temperatures ranged from 9.3 degs C on the night of the 21st/22nd, to 17.0 degs C on the night of the 9th/10th, which was the warmest September night since 2006.
The average night-time temperature was 13.1 degs C, the 4th highest of the last nine.

Temperature: [Day]:
The maximum temperature of 15.5 on the 22nd made it the second coldest September day ever at this location*. Only the 27th in 2007 was colder [14.4].  The warmest day of September 2012 was the 3rd, with 22.3 degs C, giving an average for the month of 19.02 degs C.  This makes this September the second coldest of the last nine, with 2011 being the coldest [18.83].
The maximum temperature exceeded 20 degs on at least 10 days.

Rainfall:
65.5 mm of rain fell during the month, making it the driest month since May, and the second driest September of the last five. This compares with 149.1 in August, and 72.3 mm in September 2011.

The wettest day itself was the 23rd, with 27.4 mm, the wettest day since April 29th, and the second wettest September day of the last five Septembers, behind 29.3 mm in 2010 - also on the 23rd.
There were 16 completely dry days in September 2012, the most in a month since May. 
Only 8 mm of the 65.5 total this month fell by the 22nd, with no measurable rain between the 3rd and the 8th, and none from the 13th to 22nd.  Conversely 55.1 mm of rain fell in 5 days [23rd to 27th].
