August 2012 Summary

In Brief:
Warm, but also very wet.
Temperature [Minimum]:
The coolest night of August 2012 was that of the 30th/31st with a temperature of 10.6 degs C. The last month in which the temperature never fell below that level was July 2010. The warmest night was that of the 17th/18th, when the minimum was 19.1 degs C.  This was the second warmest night ever at this location* - narrowly exceeded on the night of 18th/19th July 2006 with 19.2 degs C.
The average nighttime temperature for August 2012 was 16.07 degs C, which is the highest ever for any month at this location*

Temperature [Maximum]:
The coolest day of August 2012 was the 30th, with 18.2 degs C.  The last month not to have a cooler day was August 2010.  The warmest day was the 12th at 24.1 degs C, which was conversely the third lowest maximum for August*, just ahead of 2008 and 2011, implying a fairly limited range of temperatures for August 2012.
The average daytime temperature was 21.58 degs C, which made August 2012 the warmest of any month since July 2010.

The temperature exceeded 20 degs C on 26 days of the month, this is the most in an August since 2009, and the most of any month since July 2010.  The temperature failed to exceed 25 degs C again however - the last time it did so in August was in 2006.

Rainfall:
149.1 mm of rain fell during August 2012, making it the wettest August of the last five, and the wettest month since April 2012.  It compares with 104.8 mm of rain in July 2012, and 54.7 in August 2011.
The wettest day itself was the 27th with 20.2 mm.
There were only 7 completely dry 24 hour periods, less than half that of August 2011. July 2012 had 12.
The 'longest' dry spell was 3 days from the 8th to 10th.  It was very wet from the 15th to 17th with 45.2 mm, and 66.3 mm fell from the 24th to the 29th.

Thunder:
Thunder was heard on the 24th.
