April 2012 Summary

In Brief:
Cold and wet!

Temperature: Minimum:
Night-time temperatures ranged from 3.0 degs C on the night of the 5th/6th to 10.3 degs C on the night of the 8th/9th. This maximum has always been exceeded every April since at least 2004.
It is worthy of note that only three nights separated the coldest and mildest night of the month.

The average night-time temperature was 6.87 degs C, making this April the second coldest for nights of the last 9. [April 2010 had an average of 6.76 degs C].

The temperature fell below 5 degs C on at least 6 nights this April, however they were all before the 17th.

Temperature: Maximum:
The coldest day of April 2012 was the 4th, with just 8.8 degs C. This was not only the coldest ever April day but was the first time the temperature on an April day did not reach double figures at this location.* Furthermore it was also colder than any day in March 2012.
The mildest day of April 2012 was the 8th, with 17.0 degs C. This was the lowest ever maximum temperature reached during April at this location* and easily failed to beat the 19.1 degs C reached on 29th March 2012.
Similar to night-time values, it is interesting that only four days separated the coldest and mildest day of the month.

The average day-time temperature for the month was 13.41 degs C, which, unsurprisingly, was the lowest ever recorded for April at this location!* Furthermore it only just exceeded the average for March 2012 of 13.17.

It was the 5th April of the last 9 where the temperature did not exceed 20 degs C.

Rainfall:
188.4 mm of rain fell during the month making it the wettest April of the last five, and the wettest of any month since November 2009.
The single wettest day of the month was the 29th, with 31.1 mm. This was the wettest April day of the last five, and the wettest day since 24th October 2011. The total rainfall exceeded 15 mm on 5 more days.
There were 9 or 10 completely dry days during the month, although only one after the 16th [28th].
The 1st and 2nd were dry, concluding the dry spell begun on 23rd March. The 'longest' dry spell with no measurable rain was from the 5th to the 8th.

* = Since at least 2004.
