November 2012 Summary

In Brief:
Mild nights, slightly cooler than normal days, and very wet.

Temperature [Minimum]:
The lowest night-time temperature reached during the month was 4.8 degs C, on the night of the 28th/29th. There has not been a November since at least 2002 when the temperature did not fall below this figure.  The warmest night of November 2012 was that of the 19th/20th, with 14.6 degs C, which was the highest November minimum temperature since 2005 [15.3 degs C].
The average minimum for November 2012 was 8.97 degs C, the second highest since at least 2002.  2011 was the warmest with 10.22 degs C.

The temperature fell below 5 degs C on just one night, the equal fewest times this has happened.*

Temperature [Maximum]:
Daytime temperatures ranged from 8.8 degs C on the 29th [the day after the coldest night], to 16.3 degs C on the 12th, giving an average of 12.87 degs C for the month.  This was the 4th lowest of the last ten Novembers, and both extremities were reasonably average for Novembers of the same period.

Rainfall:
217.8 mm of rain fell during the month, making it the second wettest month since at least 2008, but only just!  The wettest month itself was November 2009 with 223.9 mm.  The 24th was a remarkable day with 61.0 mm of rain falling in the 24 hours to 2200, by which time there were several flooded roads in the vicinity, and a red [danger to life] flood warning had been issued for parts of nearby Helston.
This was easily the wettest day at this location**, beating the 51.5 mm that fell on July 8th, 2008, into second place.
There were 6 completely dry days during the month, and the driest spell was from the 13th to the 18th with 3.2 mm of rain. Conversely the 21st to the 27th saw 150.2 mm of rain.

The total rainfall for the period January to November 2012 is 1213.7 mm.  This compares with 985.2 mm for the whole of 2011.

*Since at least 2002.
**Since April 2008.
