The coldest night of the month was that of the 2nd/3rd when the temperature fell to -3.6 degc C. This was the coldest February night and the third coldest night of any month ever* at this location.
The mildest night of the month was that of the 22nd/23rd when 11.7 was reached, which was the warmest February night since 2004 and the third mildest February night ever at this location.*
The average night-time temperature was 5.52 degs C - the 4th highest for February since 2004, but the coldest month for nights since January 2011.
There were 11 nights when the temperature fell below 5 degs C, the 4th fewest for February, but the most number in any month since January 2011. The temperature also fell below zero degs C on 5 nights, the most for February since 2005, and again the most in any month since January 2011.
Temperature [Maximum]:
The extremes overnight also applied to daytime maxima as the coldest day of the month was the 2nd, with just 2.6 degs C. This was the 2nd coldest day ever at this location* - the coldest itself being 2.3 degs C on December 1st, 2010.
Conversely, the thermometer reached 15.7 degs C on the 23rd, which was the 2nd highest ever for February at this location* - the highest being 15.8 degs on the 4th in 2004.
The average maximum was 10.14 degs C, making February 2012 the coldest month [daytime] since January 2011, and the coldest February since 2006.
Rain:
45.8 mm of rain fell during February 2012, making it the driest of the last four Februaries and the driest month of any since May 2011.
The wettest day itself was the 4th with 16.0 mm, and there were 16 completely dry days, the most since April 2011.
There were only four days when over 2 mm of rain fell - 4th, 10th [11.5 mm], 18th [7.6 mm], and 22nd [7.7 mm] but these were well spaced throughout the month so as to leave no lengthy completely dry spell.
