November 2011 Summary

Summary:
A mild and comparatively dry November. There was very little variation between maximum temperatures throughout the month, thus an absence of cold spells.

Temperature: Minimum:
Night-time temperatures ranged from 3.3 degs C on the night of the 6th/7th [the coldest night since 18th/19th March], to 13.6 degs C on the night of the 12th/13th.
Last November's minimum temperature was -3.8 degs C, 7.1 degs colder than this.
This gave an average night-time figure of 10.22 degs C, which is the highest for any November at this location, and is way above second placed 2009 which saw 8.95 degs C.
It was also warmer than this April [8.78] and over 4 degs warmer than November 2010 [6.2].
This is even more remarkable now that a new more reliable thermometer is being used, which seems to record around 1 deg C lower than the previous one.
There was only one night where the temperature fell below 5 degs C, compared to 12 in November 2010.

Temperature: Maximum:
Daytime temperatures ranged from 10.9 degs C on the 7th [the coldest day since March 13th], to 15.8 degs C on the 11th, just four days later.
10.9 was the highest ever 'minimum' November daytime temperature* and 15.8 the second lowest* 'maximum' which illustrates the narrow range of maximum temperatures the month produced. All this led to an average of 14.01 degs C, which is second equal warmest for November* [with 2006], the mildest being 2007.

Rainfall:
76.3 mm of rain fell during the month, which made it the driest November since at least 2008. This compares with 112.8 mm in October, and 183.8 mm in November 2010.
The wettest day itself was the 16th with 19.6 mm, however the period from the 12th to the 15th was completely dry, and only 3.5 mm fell from the 17th to the 27th.
In total there were 11 dry days, 5 more than the previous highest for November.

*Since at least 2003.
