October 2009 Summary

Temperature [Max]:
The highest daytime temperature of the month was 19.8 degs C, recorded on the 6th, which was the equal second highest October temperature since I began recording in 2003. [20.2 was reached on 29th October 2006]. The following day however, there was a drop of almost 5 degs to 14.9 on the 7th.
13.9 was infact the lowest daytime temp recorded for the month - on the 17th.
The average daytime temperature for the month was 17.1 degs C, making it the second warmest October beaten only by 2006.

Temperature [Min]:
Nighttime temperatures ranged from a minimum of 7.1 degs C on the night of the 12th/13th, to 15.5 degs C on that of the 5th/6th. The average nighttime temp was 11.26 degs, close to the average for the last 7 Octobers.

Rain: 103.6 mm of rain fell this month, producing the wettest month since July. This figure was just below the totals for August and September combined, but was well short of October 2008's total of 144.2 mm.
The 7th of the month [already mentioned above] saw the most rain to fall in a day with 31.9 mm - the wettest since 29th July, however it was followed by a mainly dry spell. Only 1 mm of rain fell between the 10th and the 19th of the month.
The long dry spell that brought no measurable rain from the 9th September continued into the month of October for just 2 more days.

The last week of October 2009 saw mild temperatures and very little rain, however it will be remembered for the overcast grey skies that persisted for most of that week.
