February 2010 Summary
Temperature [Min]:
Night time temperatures this month ranged from a low of -1.3 degrees on the night of the 10th/11th, to a max of 9.3 degs on the night of the 3rd/4th. This, and the previous night, were part of a brief milder spell compared with the rest of the month. The only other time the minimum reached more than 6.2 degs was on the 24th [7.1].
The average night time temp for the month was 3.94 degs, making it the coldest February since 2005 [3.62]. It was less cold than January 2010 however [2.73].
Temps fell below 5 degs C on 16 nights, 2 more than February 09, but far fewer than January 2010 [23].
There were 2 nights with temps below zero, the same as February 09, a lot fewer than in January 2010, when there were 9.
Temperature [Max]:
Daytime temps ranged from a minimum of 5.2 on the 11th to 13.4 on the 24th. The first week produced reasonable maximum temperatures of around 11 or 12 degs, however the second week was much colder, recovering slightly for the 3rd week, before returning to the milder highs for the final week.
This all led to an average daytime temp for the month of 10.18 degs, the coldest February since 2006 [9.67]. It was, maybe surprisingly, colder than February 2009 with its snow event [10.95]. February 2010 was significantly milder than January though [8.33].
Overall February 2010 was rather an uneventful month - not the coldest or the mildest, by night or by day.
Rain:
77.7 mm of rain fell during the month, making it the driest month since September 2009. This was similar to February 09 [80.8 mm].
The 4th was the wettest single day with 14.3 mm.
There was a completely dry spell from the 6th to the 14th, however some rain then fell every day until the 27th.

Sunny start. Cloudy from late morning, although blue sky still within sight - to the north, west, and south! Sunny again from late afternoon.
Temps: Min: 4.7; Max: 13.6. Rain: Nil.
Today was a perfect example of how convective cloud forms over the spine of Cornwall on a fine day. Normally when this happens it forms over the A30 Trunk Road - however it was further south today - probably caused by the sea breeze from the north coast being stronger than the one from the south.
